Special Wednesday Philosophy event and Reschedule of Regular Discussion

First, our normal philosophy group discussion will be rescheduled for 5th week because this next wednesday PRISM is sponsoring a special event for undergraduate philosophy students, details on that below. Finally, we plan to be back on schedule for 6th week.

So for this next Wednesday, Daniel has asked me to send along this message to all of you interested students:

Wed., Jan 24th, 6.00pm, Ida Noyes West Lounge (2nd Floor).

Interested in what kind of jobs are available to philosophy majors upon
graduation? Want to know what steps you should be taking while in school
to improve your chances of getting a job when you graduate? Come hear
what a recent alums are doing with their philosophy degrees (you may be
surprised) as well as what current students are doing to prepare for
graduation. Our panelists will tell you about their experience with
getting a job and how their philosophy degrees have helped or hindered
along the way. Even if you're interested in going to grad school, this
is a good event to attend: one of our panelists is returning to grad
school after working for two years, so he can tell you about the
pros/cons of taking time off and what made him decide to return to
school. We will conclude the evening with a resume workshop, so be sure
to bring yours along if you have one. And, of course, there will be pizza.

Results of 2nd Week Meeting

Hi everybody and welcome back to a new and fruitful year with the Undergraduate Philosophy Workshop. It was great to see so many old and new faces. In any event, we decided to focus on Ethics this quarter and we'll be reading essays from the oxford Virtue Ethics.

For next meeting, we will be reading "Modern Moral Philosophy" by Elizabeth Anscombe, and we will be meeting in the Stuart seminar room Wednesday at 7:00. Also, we discussed asking Gabriel Lear and Candace Vogler to come talk to us, does anyone have any other ideas? Feel free to post comments if you do.
